Bienvenue a Accra they say. Flew in yesterday via Frankfurt, both of the flights delayed but got to Kotoka international in one piece. I was expecting to feel a bit of a culture shock the first day but everything was so mellow and in a way familiar, that couldn't help taking an instant liking to the place. Locals seem to have big smiles and hearts..
Ofcourse I immediately started comparing things between other parts of Africa I've been to with Ghana, and amazing enough there are loads of South African brands here like Nando's, Steers, MTN and even found myself a Savanna dry. After arriving at the Niagara plus hotel from the chaotic ride from the airport, got a first sighting of our truck. Later also met up with Paul and Michael our tour leaders and got introduced to Star, the local beer, which according to them is very mild (5%). Was a long day from 4AM UK time to 2AM Ghanaian time and definately took a little toll on me the next morning..
Tomorrow will be meeting up with the rest of the group and spending another day in Accra before heading to Kumasi. As long as I don't run out of DEET I'm sure it's going to be a one to remember. The folks at the hotel are watching Ghana play Korea at the moment and they sure take their football seriously.. Better go and join the fun.
