Yep, still in Lamai and will be for a few more days by the look of it. We f***ing love this place! We are 30 seconds away from 2 of the most fantastic restaurants i have ever experienced, both over looking the palm tree lined beach, and the Thai food in both really is something special (green curry is the dogs danglers). Plus we have the incredible water directly on our doorstep, and the bungalow we are renting is cheap as chips. We dabbled with some low rent accommodation, but for an extra fiver a night you get beach front digs with a very nice en suite.
Like a couple of bell ends we got up early today to go and watch the boxing. Thought we had the time differences worked out, but didn't take into consideration that our Saturday is still Friday in Vegas.. Still had a few early morning pints in an Irish boozer, and a very nice English Breakfast. By the way I have tried the traditional Thai breckie, and it was f***ing freaky! Rice soup and pork, served with ginger strips, croutons, and a half boiled egg. Imagine pork flavoured rice pudding and you have it. I didn't want to offend so persevered through as many shocking spoonfuls as i could, before retreating to the toilet to introduce it to it's rightful home. Sorry Thai peeps but that stuff just doesn't work with my bland English pallet.
We earned some serious karma points last night. Fed a wild dog with the HUGE piece of fried belly pork I had purchased from the outdoor market for my own enjoyment, and Teresa knocked up a very impressive improvised bowl of water using a couple of carrier bags. Along with the fussing we gave her, we sent her away very happy. We came back today to find another scruffy little canine asleep on our veranda (word gets around). Teresa again put her water bowl improv skills to the test and another dog left very satisfied (minus the pork). If we keep this up we will soon be joining the pack. For anyone that is worried about us befriending wild animals, I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Apart from a few fleas, these mutts are great. They have the most amazing life, wandering about with their mates, chilling on the beach, and getting fed by the enormous buddhist population. If reincarnation exists (and I am not yet ready for nirvana..) then I want to come back as a Koh Samui wild dog.
Off into town to watch some more Thai boxing tonight. Mostly women having it out, but you wouldn't know the difference. Male or female, they kick the living s*** out of each other. For such a smiley, pleasant bunch, these Thai's really do love a good punch up. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them (read my last blog entry and understand why I was quite happy to pay up)
As I write this the dog from last night has just strolled up to our hut. I wonder if she will like the green tea cake I bought Teresa earlier...
Love to all.
Wish you were here.
