The shuttle picked us up yesterday and took us to the airport so that we could check in to our domestic flight to Christchurch on the south island of New Zealand.
Check in was fine, had no problems at all - other than Adam complaining that he had to carry one of my hand luggage bags through security, which he thought made him look gay! Never! Haha!
We ended up falling out in the que to board the plane and the lady in front of us said that we would make the perfect couple because we were cute when we argued. Whatever! Trust me, I was quick to tell her that there was no way that I would ever touch him with a barge pole! It was very funny and I think most of the people on the plane heard the comment and laughed at us.
The flight took an hour and a half and by 21:30, we had landed at Christchurch airport. We waited for our bags for about half an hour and then jumped on a nother shuttle for it to take us to the hostel that we had booked last week, online.
Funny thing was, we forgot the street address and didnt have a telephone number for the hostel, so the shuttle bus had to drop us off in the middle of the city, with our bags (by this time it was 23:00) and we had to fend for ourselves. We knew the name of the hostel, but the three people that we had asked from the area had never heard of it at all - great!
Anyway, I found an internet cafe and used the net quickly to find out where it was we were heading for. Found it and was only a ten minute walk around the corner. We turned into Worcester Street and were welcomed by four prostitutes standing on the street corner, one of which was yanking her knickers up her bum and showing a passing driver. I was not impressed and told Adam that if the hostel was as dodgy as the street it was on, there was no way I was staying in it and that we would be walking the streets all night to find somewhere else to stay. Luckily, the hostel was pretty nice. It was so clean, had recently been refurbished and we had a funky bedroom - you'll see what I mean by the pictures. We had an en-suite bedroom and even had a quilt on the bed - heaven!
I had a really good nights sleep, except for Adam waking me up with his snoring at 4am. I took the pillow off the top bunk and threw it at him - he woke up and went mad at me for waking him up, was so funny.
Anyway, we both got to sleep and when I woke up this morning, he wouldnt speak to him for about an hour because he couldnt get back to sleep, due to my snoring apparently! Yeah right - I do not snore!
So, we had nothing to do today, and as we are only in Christchurch for one day, I told him that we had to do something. I had a brochure that I picked up from the airport, advertising things to do in the area and we picked to go horseriding.
SUCH A FUNNY DAY! Adam called up the stables and arranged for us to be picked up at 10:30. Johnny picked us up and we drove an hour out of the city, towards the mountians and valleys. It was such a beautiful sight - so different to all the cities that we have stayed in over the past few months.
Tim was my horse - turned out that he was the 'boss' of all eighteen horses! We booked a three hour trek through the valleys, it also included afternoon tea - so that was lunch sorted for us. The views were out of this world, it was so cold though, the wind was so strong and nearly knocked Adam off of his horse. He was so funny on his horse;Lulu - he has never been on a horse before.
We got back the stables at 15:30, brushed the horses and Johnny drove us back to the city. It made such a nice change from the usual things that we have done.
Not much planned for tonight because the KIWI Experience bus is picking us up at 08:15 tomorrow to start our southward journey down the west coast, starting with Westport.
