No sleeping in for us this morning as we wanted to see as much of London as we could in a short time. We got up after not enough hours sleep, got ready quickly, said goodbye to Dani as she left and we followed her out the door not long after her. We made our way to Wandsworth station, and got our tickets for the train to Waterloo. The train only took about 20 minutes and we were at Waterloo station. Before we carried on though we stopped for a coffee and bit of breakfast to go.
Our first stop was the London eye for a look and because we were so early the streets weren’t too busy. Then we headed back across Waterloo bridge: on our way to the bridge Navajo noticed one of her friends running and called out to him so we stopped and had a quick chat with her - what good luck! We made our way across the bridge taking plenty of pictures and into Trafalgar Square. From there we headed towards Big Ben. Big Ben is sadly still under complete reconstruction but we got to see where he was. We then walked around Westminster palace and Westminster abbey and on our walk decided we wanted to go in the London eye and as our phones wouldn’t load the tickets we made a quick phone call to mum who booked online for us.
We then had 2 hours to kill so we decided to walk to the Tower of London. It wasn’t a short walk - about 45 minutes each way. On the way down we walked past all sorts of cool building, old fancy English ones as well as big new buildings. We also stopped for some photos at Shakespeares globe.
Once we got to the bridge we stopped for some more photos and then turned around and headed back to the London eye for our trip around to look at the city. Our fast pass ticket was Navajo’s favourite thing after learning how little patience she has! We were on the carriage within 5 minutes of heading through. It was a very cool 30 minute trip around. Seeing the city from above was very awesome.
Once we were off, we had a quick look in some British shops and then started the walk to Buckingham Palace. We couldn’t have timed it more perfectly, we arrived there, took some photos and then started to head around the main roundabout out the front as we were stopped as we were about to cross the road. We knew something was going on with all the officers blocking the road, but we weren’t sure what. We were stopped right at the front with the best view as we realised it was changing of the guards. It was very cool experience, we watching the royal horses come down followed by the new guards. Very lucky!
Once we had finished taking photos we started the rather long walk to Paddington station. We walked through Buckingham Palace gardens and then through Hyde park, were we eventually made it to Paddington town and to the train station. We also times that perfectly and scanned our tickets and we’re straight on the Heathrow express to the airport. By the time we sat down on the rain (at 12:20pm) we had done 18km and over 20,000 steps!
We got off at our terminal and still had a bit of a walk to the actual terminal. Once we were up above ground again we went to collect our bags from storage - which went very smoothly, and then headed upstairs to departures, repacked our bags from the night and checked in. This time they decided to weigh our carry on. Luckily we both scrapped through.
Once we were checked in we made our way through security and then had about 2 hours to spear before it was time to board. We headed upstairs for some sushi for lunch and then a quick look in the shops and before we knew it it was time to head to our gate.
Because we hadn’t done enough walking already today we had to walk about 15-20 minutes across to terminal B to our gate. When we got there we were happy to sit down - a total of 22km for the day! We both went and freshened up and changed our clothes for the flight and then it was time to board.
When we got to our seats we thought we were lucky and had a spear seat in our row and then we worked out we were actually very lucky as we had a sky couch! It made the flight a lot more comfortable. Dinner was served not long after we were on the plane and then it was time to settle in the for flight. For 17 1/2 hours total in London we certainly made the most of it and seen a lot!
The flight went pretty fast and with just under two hours to go we were given breakfast/lunch - were not exactly sure what meal it was, and then it was time to land.
We slowly made our way through border security, luckily it moved a bit faster this time through and then we headed for our bags. We collected our bags and then made it through customs. Before we left the airport we had to check everything was right with our next flight home tomorrow as the app seemed to be playing up. It was all fine so we went outside to get the hotel shuttle. After ringing for the shuttle and showing the driver our booking we somehow still ended up being take to the wrong holiday inn. We had the option to get the shuttle back to the airport and then get on the other one again to the hotel, but as they only come once every half hour we made the call to pay $7 for an Uber - well worth it.
We got checked in and into our rooms to find two double beds - very exciting after having shared a king single for the last 2 1/2 weeks. We sat down for a bit and then headed out to grab some food and came back and ate it in the hotel before watching some tv and heading to sleep.
