The adventures together started at 3:30pm when I got to Navajo’s. Excited to go and bags packed all that was left to do was our hair. We did our hair in French plaits hoping they would stay in for the flight - though we both looked like little girls again. We met everyone at the airport and had a quick snack and laugh before we headed through to the gate on our first flight to Auckland.
We arrived in Auckland just after 8pm and made our way over to the international terminal. With not a lot of time to spare we shot through security, grabbed ourselves a quick celebration drink and carried onto the gate for the first of the two big flights. We had very little time at the gate and we made our way down to the back of the plane to our seats in cattle class.
We both managed to get a bit of sleep on the first flight, and fit in a couple of movies each. The family behind us had a couple of upset kids that Navajo was ready to strangle by the end of the flight - poor things!
We then landed in LAX after a 12 hour flight with a very messed up time clock at 3pm local time and had to make our way through customs and security. It took forever and we started to wonder whether we would even get through in time and the lines seemed to be never ending! We made it to the gate just as we were called for boarding but made sure to have a quick toilet stop and brush our teeth before we boarded.
It was then back into the same seats for the next 10 1/2 hours. Lucky for Navajo we had the same family behind us - turns out they were really lovely! We had a good yarn to the mum and kids, and the wee girl borrowed care bear for her sleep! We didn’t get as much sleep on that flight but enjoyed the food and movies! We decided mid flight to get a cheeky vodka and lemonade... when the flight attendant got to us with the drinks she was unimpressed that kids had ordered drinks that she would now have to throw out, after explaining our age she felt rather bad and then proceeded to tell us it was a compliment. We enjoyed the drink any way!
The rest of the flight went well, though it seemed a lot longer than the first. With sleeping patterns very out of whack we finally landed in London, where we made our way through the not so strong security, where we met mum and dad on the other side.
