After my very noice and comfy 15 hour coach journey, i arrived in airlie beach at about 11am. I had the whole day here before my sailing trip the next day so i checked into a hostel and had a walk around; remembering places from the previous time i was here with the camper with sandy and alex, this time i was all alone! :(
I had to check in for the boat trip before 4pm so i did that, then went back to the hostel and chatted to some irish who were in my room. Getting no sleep, i figured it would be best to get an early night...zzz
Checked out of the hostel around 10am, and needed to get to the harbour for 1pm so i got the important things out the way first, straight to the bottle shop..beer and goon was on the menu. As i was waiting to get on the boat, i got talking to a few people who on the same boat, a couple of girls from england, an irish lad and a dutch lad, oh also the bloke who worked on the boat was from norwich!! we all ended up hanging out for most of the trip, they were all a good bunch. Anyway after having a quick briefing and putting our stuff away below deck we set sail (with the help of a powerful engine) at about 3pm; the views of the islands were awesome! It was a beautiful day too which really helped with the trip. After we all absorbed the surroundings, we all decided to copy the germans and start drinking, they were all on the jim beam by this point, so we had to drink, and drink fast! (Not really)
We anchored at sunset and while food was being prepared, we carried on drinking. (whheeyyy). The food was lovely by the way, but the drinking carried on for most of the night, as did the dancing on the boats roof.
We all got woken at a very nice time of 6:30am!! As you can imagine, none of us were hanging at all and we were all up for the day ahead..Our first destination was whitehaven beach which was recently voted one of the nicest beaches in the world. And you can see why when you actually get there and see it for yourself! Its amazing! I think it was where Pirates of the caribbean 2 was filmed for one of the scenes. We got there at about 9am so we had a good 2 hours there. Pictures dont justify how nice the place is, you have to see it with your own eyes to see how beautiful the beach is. The sea was so warm, and so clear, and the sand is...well...white! When you get in you can see stingray swimming around. I could have stayed there forever...but unfortunatley we had to leave at around 11:30am to get to our next spot to do a spot of snorkling! It was turning out to be a really rubbish day ;)
We got to our first spot an hour or two later, and the things i saw, i think were more impressive than what i saw diving off cairns. The coral was more colourful and i saw alot more tropical fish..there were 100's swimming around you. I made myself panick a few times by imagining a huge shark swimming really fast from below me, not a good idea! We set off again an hour later, where we had lunch, and set sail around some more islands. We anchored around the same time as the previous night, and started drinking around the same time. The germans however did not, they were all still suffering from the night before. HA! Drinking and dancing resumed for the rest of the night....
For our last day we went to a couple more snorkling spots, and nice swimming spots, arriving back into airlie beach around 12pm. It was a brilliant trip, and will hard to top. I met some really cool people and saw some amazing places. I got back to the hostel and had a kip to try and recover before the big 'Tongara' night out, where everyone meets up that night and goes out for 'a few lemonades'. It was a good night. I had to be up earlyish the next morning to get the bus to rainbow beach via hervey bay for my fraser island trip....bye
