Randy & Marilyn's Retirement Travels
We began our day by checking out the city of Napier which is on the east coast of the North Island. This city was totally destroyed by an earthquake in 1930 and then rebuilt with an art deco design. It has beautiful gardens along the ocean. There are a lot of Native Maori legends in this area.
We then headed to Lake Taupo which is the site of the world's largest volcanic eruption. We also saw the Huka Falls which was a beautiful aqua colored water fall and was quite spectacular.
Our final stop for the day was at the Orakei Korako Thermal area. The Rotorua area is very popular with the geysers and bubbling mudpools.
We plan to get an early start tomorrow and head for the Bay of Islands on the north end of the island.
