We arrived late afternoon in Christchurch. We began taking pictures already on our decent of NZ. The mountains and the turquoise colored lakes with fields bordered with trees was beautiful. We picked up the camper van and stayed at a campground in Christchurch. The campground has several red cross workers and lots of law enforcement who are managing the earthquake recovery. There had been a 4.1 and a 4.3 aftershock this morning. They told us of an evacuation plan but in the camper there was nothing that could fall on our heads.
We went to the local shopping center to pick up supplies as we'll be in the camper for the next 3 weeks. We had a bit of a mishap in the parking lot. As we were leaving we were exiting our spot, and when there was some congestion, Randy put us back into reverse and we collided with another vehicle that was pulling in quickly into our space. Randy quickly went back to check out the damage. The Kiwi said "you need to move ahead mate, my car is under your bumper". When Randy went back out he said "no worries mate it's OK". It was mutual responsibility but we felt quite fortunate that we had such a laid back response.
As we were completing our travel plans for tomorrow we experienced an aftershock from the earthquake. It was quite brief but the camper was rolling for a bit.
