Today we went to the Mamanuca islands. It was a tour on a 83 foot schooner. We anchored off the island of Modrika where we went snorkeling and spent some time on the beach. Modrika was the island in the Tom Hanks movie 'Castaway' and it is uninhabited. It is a beautiful island with soft white sand. The coral and snorkeling was good.
We then moved on to the island of Yanuya where we visited a traditional Fijian island village. We participated in a Kava ceremony. Kava is a traditional drink here and the locals insist you try it. It's hard to describe the taste. Sort of a tea but without much flavor.
We then shopped from the locals who were selling their crafts, which was primarily jewelry.
Walu is the local fish here which I think is exceptionally good fish. We had some grilled on the boat today for lunch. We also had small sharks swimming by the boat when we anchored at the end of the trip.
There are guitar and ukulele players and singers everywhere in Fiji. Every meal, including breakfast, you are serenaded. It's great! The crew on the boat also sang and played throughout our trip today.
We took so many pictures of islands today because each one was so picturesque and beautiful with white sand beaches surrounded by tourquise water.
We had great weather again today, but the sun is intense. We'll enjoy it while we can.
