End of the line Summer 2010 Cagliari Friday 15th October
Last full day in Sardinia. We have had some stormy weather in the area, so have been doing boat jobs when it was windy or sheets of rain, and sightseeing and taking sails down when fine. We finally negotiated the price down on the lift out and 6 months ashore. The windy weather convinced us that was the only option. The whole pontoon moved about in the wind - we think it was just the boats holding it in place! A farewell meal with Free Spirit with the aim of meeting up next year. We will probably meet up too with a German boat who are going roughly our way. And today had a last wander around the back streets of Cagliari, escaping in part yet another demonstration. Today's demonstration was about government funding (or lack of it) for schools. Very loud and enthusiastic with much support from the crowds and even the local carabinieri.
And so we got the command to bring Myrica over to the quayside for her lift. This was done by the father (Antonio) a bearded shambling monosyllabic chap who likes his wine. But he also likes boats and seems to take great care of them and drives his crane (or gru) with panache. We were duly lifted, moved about a bit, pressure washed and deposited where she will stay for the winter. So it is last jobs and last night. We fly home tomorrow afternoon to all sorts of mayhem no doubt.
There is a lot about Sardinia I haven't said. The prehistoric nuraghs, the mountains, the people. We'll be back in late April 2011, so will pick up the story then and add in some of the local colour.
Until then, arrivederci. xx
