Its 3am and I cant sleep so thought I better update my blog!
If fly to Jakarta on the 13th Feb so will summarise the past few weeks the best I can and then update the blog more often. Before leaving for Borneo I was shadowing the owner of a hostel in KL and receiving training to run the place whilst she would be on holiday. So once i got back I worked there for a few weeks. I did this mainly to get an insight into running a hostel and for the experience. A few days ago I had an argument with the owner and quit! (long story!). Although i did not want it to end like that, I have no regrets and through working at the hostel I made loads of good friends and learnt so much about so much!
Since leaving the hostel i worked at in a rush a few days ago I checked into a new one in Bukit Bintang area of KL. Since moving there I had some sort of allergic reaction and my body was covered in huge red spots. I took antihistamine tablets and they were all gone by the morning. Although at night they would appear but even more severe- it was like i was a werewolf and would transform at night. It was quiet worrying but i thought i would leave it a few days and keep taking the tablet. I figured it would take a few days for what every was in my body to completely disappear. Luckily I am fine now! Since quitting my job I met up with the Spanish friends i made in Borneo. We did some of the touristy stuff I still had left to do and just hanged out and had fun!!
Oh and the curse of the camera continues. Since getting ripped off in Singapore with my camera. Whilst I got ill and moved hostels I left the camera box under the bed (it had some plugs in and my warranty cards and CD). I realised a couple of days later that I left the box at the hostel so I called them and went to pick it up. Man the guy who works there he bought my box down which he had torn. He kept the empty case and plug but threw away my 1 year international warranty and olympus CD!! I FELT LIKE STRANGLING HIM! he said he "the rubbish papers in the box away, i throw away"! argghhhh but it was also my stupid fault for leaving the box there. And he is overworked and underpaid and not very bright so I just let it go.
Yesterday we went to the Chinese New Year festival. It was a huge televised occasion with the prime-minister and other big shots there! They closed off the road in Bukit Bintang and had put up a stage and chairs/tents. By 8pm the place was packed out! It was really elitist though as all the well connected people got a seat in front of the stage whilst the other 98% of people were behind a fence and could not see anything. It was meant to be open house too and everyone welcome! anyway, i managed to sneak in with the media and got close to all the action! For once my professional camera came in use!!! I stayed undetected for about 2 hours before a policeman asked me where my media pass was! I left after that as there was no point staring at the back of someones head behind a fence!
I am looking forward to Indonesia but haven't heard a good word about Jakarta so am a little apprehensive. will just have to wait and see.....
