I've just been having such a good time and been so busy that I haven't had chance to update blog. I've only been kicked into action by Laura!! I have so much to say but will have to sumarise the best I can. Borneo 08-01-08 to 22-01-08Flew to Kota Kinabalu and stayed at Borneo Backpackers. Met the owner in KL and was good to meet up with her again in KK. I went to food market, mosque, and old buildings in the town. People in KK are very friendly and helpful. Whilst staying in this hostel, Astro (malaysian channel) were filming the hostel and I am in the background! So I'll be on TV on 08th Feb!! I also met up with my good friend Christine, who I worked with at the hostel in KL. She is a helicopter pilot and I was sooooo close to flying to tawau with her for a few days but it was cancelled last minute :( It was still nice to meet up with her and go for lunch and hang out. I caught a bus from KK to the national park where I where I walked some of the trails/tours and went to the botanical garden. I then stayed outside the park for 1 night- which was a mistake as it's in the middle of nowhere! I didn't climb the mountain as the weather wasn't great- it rained all night!! I then caught bus to the Hotsprings and Canopy walk. I didn't really like the hotsprings but the canopy walk was cool. I made another mistake by staying a night just outside the area. This was even worse than before and I stayed in a room behind a restaurant. It was clean but at night there was nothing apart from a 3 legged dog around. That night I was ill as it was very cold and I had a really bad migraine- really weird night!! Then I caught a bus to Ranau and then a bus from there to Sandakan (4 hours or so). I stayed in the boutique Summer Hostel which was really nice. The staff there were like family and the owner who just recently opened the hostel was very helpful. Whilst there many people I talked to recommended I go to Uncle Tans Camp. So I booked to go there in a couple of days. I went to the Orangutan Sanctuary which was awesome. Uncle Tans Camp was amazing, it was one of the best things I have done on my trip so far. The staff were knowledgeable and fun. They had grown up in the jungle and loved it. we went on boat safari and saw Proboscis Monkeys, Crocodiles, Lizards, Tarantula, so many different birds, insects etc etc. The great thing was all these animals were in the wild and were were able to get so close to them! I made a lot of friends at the camp and had a great time in all the activities we took part in. We walked through a lot of mud, and the accommodation was very basic and I didn't shower for 3 days, but everyone was in the same situation so it didn't matter. After the camp, I went back to Sandakan and the same hostel. I stayed there for 1 more night and went out for a meal and drinks with the people who I met at the camp. I had originally planned to go to Brunei for a couple of days but time was running short so I had to miss it out. I only covered a tiny part of Borneo but had such a great time that I will def go back !! I then caught a bus from Sandakan to KK (6 hours) and spent 2 nights there. I met a local at he is a writer and his interest is architecture in Sabah. So he showed me around and gave me a tour and then went to the street market which takes place every Sunday.
