16th-17th April The last bit of the ferry ride was the best. For the last hour we cruised through the Marlborough Sounds which was stunning! 12th-16th April It was over 300km to get to Wellington and it was a hell of a windy drive! The van was literally swerving and being pulled, it was scary! It wasn't far off sunset when we got to Wellington and we couldn't be bothered cooking after the drive so we went to McDs and got the hunger buster meals. 8th-12th April On the way down to Tongariro National Park we stopped in Turangi, a little town with not much there. We went to the iSite and got some more information about the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and then rang the accommodation we wanted to stay at that have transport to the crossing. 6th-8th April We got to Taupo around an hour before sunset so we headed straight to where we were staying for the night. 4th- 6th April It only took about an hour and a half to get to Waitomo from Matamata and we arrived where we were parking for the night at about 4.30pm. We passed the Waitomo caves and there was a choice of two free places to park overnight. We decided we would do a night at each so went to the one the furthest away first.
