We checked out of our hotel and set off for our next destination, Halong Bay. It rained that much the night before and apparently all night that the roads were completely flooded (see picture) but everything kept moving, just slower than usual. Unlike the UK, the roads stayed open. We arrived in Halong around 2pm, 2 hours later than expected due to lots of traffic and flooded roads. Today we couldn't have a lie in as we planned a day trip to Bai Dinh province to see a Pagoda (Buddhist temple) and some caves. So up we were at 7am. We also had to pack all our stuff up as we had to move hotel rooms. When we arrived at this hotel we got an upgrade to a family suite but since then someone had booked that suite so we had to change. We had a 2 hour minibus drive to the pagodas with Peter our tour guide for the day who looked exactly like Ed Milib...

Today we wandered to a lake in the centre of the city. It was nice to be somewhere that had a little more air to breathe. On the way we went for lunch at Joma, which is a chain of cafes from Canada that serve Western food. I had humous and veg. I have missed humous!!! It may sound like we eat more Western food and we probably do but that's not because we don't like Asian food. At home, I rarely eat just British food, I've been brought up to eat lots of cuisines ...

Lie ins are becoming a regular feature in our travels and we love it as neither of us are morning people. We don't miss the 7:30am get ups at all. If we don't have a day trip planned for the day then we usually get up at 10am/11am. It's tiring travelling the world. Today was a very hot day, the sun was out and being in the city made everything seem a lot hotter, it must have been around 35 degrees! We checked out of the hotel at 12pm and made our way to the airport to catch a flight to Hanoi in Vietnam. After researching, we found there are only 2 ways to get to Vietnam. By land or air.
