we had to wait around on phi phi till the afternoon for our 2 hour ferry to railay. had an interesting transfer from the ferry to a longtail boat with all our bags... was rocking all over the place.. and then had to wade through the water, trying not to get anything wet!
we walked across to the other side of railay, to the eastern side. not a nice beach here but cheaper accomodation.. and only a short walk to the other 2 beaches. sarah walked off to find us some accomodation whilst i waited with the bags. she found us a nice place with a big double bed each, hot water, air con and a swimming pool for 600b a night for the room. (about 12 pounds) also had a great view of the limestone rock formations which railay is famous for (lots of people come here to rock climb). unfortunately, we were also sharing our room with a mouse!! it kept us awake all night, knawing on the wood. was very annoying! then the night after, one of those horrible flying massive beetle bug things, that make a horrible sound, got into our room. we totally freaked out and had to ask someone from reception to get it for us! haha! was pretty funny.
we went and explored the diamond cave, which had lots of bats (and mozzies!) and then had a look at the beaches. to get to one of the beaches, we had to walk under the rock formations and caves.. was a great walk.. and an amazing beach. think it was my favourite in thailand. rocks hanging over beautiful clear green water and soft sand. there was also another beach, the one we arrived on which was nice but not as nice as the other one.
sarah also convinced me to go on a hike through the jungle to reach tonsai beach. was tough in the heat and had to pull ourselves up a rope at one point. got completely bitten to death by the mozzies. the beach wasnt even worth it! we then went back a different way, scrambling over the rocks.
spent some time by the pool and chilled out. had just over 3 days in railay, and really liked it here. feeling a little sad as this is our last stop in thailand, before we move on to malaysia. looking forward to a new place though :)
