We met our group and sorted out our shopping the day before for our trip. We were in a group of nine people, mostly from the UK. There was another car of mostly Canadians going on the other tour. It was a self drive tour so we spent the morning going through all the safety stuff and packing the car. Then we were off! We caught the ferry to the island and drove up the beach and then inland to Lake McKenzie. It was a nice sunny day and the lake looked idylic. We wasted no time in going for a swim. The main beach was really busy, so we took a short stroll, to an undiscovered (by the rabble at least) area. The next morning we drove the length of the island to Indian Head, stopping to see the Maheno shipwreck. We don't know anything about the ship wreck but it looked pretty cool. Sion really enjoyed the driving, but it was a bit bumpy for the passengers.
That night we camped at an Aboriginal owned campsite, so we were allowed a camp fire. This kept the mosquitoes away for a while, and we had toasted marshmellows. The next morning everyone was tired and a bit hungover, but we were up bright and early to go to Lake Wabby. It was a short walk through the forest to get to the lake and a long walk over the sand dunes back.
