Lane's Oz Adventure
So I spent my birthday in Port Douglas and can honestly say it was let's just say dull. I booked myself into a room for 6 people thinking then at least I would have some company. However once I arrived I discovered it would just be me on my own for three days. So all I can say was it was very lonely. But I would like to say thanks to everyone who sent me a message, they were very much appreciated, although I am stating that the fact I spent my birthday on my own officially means that I didn't actually turn 22 - ha ha.
Port douglas was a lovely place although it did rain which meant there wasn't all that much to do. I walked the four mile beach and went to a few look outs, so had quite a few lazy days.
So once I got back to Cairns, I returned to my usual hostel, actually feeling like this is my new home which is a huge reason kind of telling me to move on.
Today (15th August) I have had a crazy day. Some of the Canadian guys in my hostel decided they wanted to do a road trip, so we hired a car between five of us, 2 canadians pete and steve and then an english guy andy and an english girl sonia and me. We headed for Kurandra which is this little place up in the mountains. After having a look around the town and looking at all the didgereedoos we decided to go and do a hike.
So on our hike we discovered loads of crazy stuff. Including licking this crazy green ant which has a little pod on it, when you lick it, it gives you all the vitamin c you need for the day. So surreal but quite funny, it tasted really fruity. After that the guys thought it would be funny to impersonate tarzan and climb down these huge vines - I have the pictures to prove it.
After that I thought we would spend the day finding a nice beach but no the canadians wanted more hikes so we headed to find this creek with a waterfall. It was this long walk to find it and then we had to scale these rocks like crazed monkeys. The guys all were leaping around while me and sonia were just trying to find safe places to step which weren't infested with spiders. I can honsetly say it was such a funny action packed day. And once I finish this entry I am off for some Chocalate Martini's. It really is a hard life.
Catch you all later
Lot's of love
