Rachel's Travels...
Saturday 13 - Had a lazy morning trying to sort out my plans for my remaining time here. Then I went on a cruise on Lake Wakatipu. The cruise was on the old steamer TSS Earnslaw that was launched in 1912. The cruise went to the other side of the lake (the western side) to a tiny place called Walter Peak. There is a farm there and you can go horse riding but there is nothing else. But it seemed nice and quaint although I didn't get of the boat to see. Throughout the cruise a woman was playing the piano and doing a sing-along. They even have a little booklet/song book with all the song lyrics so everyone who wants to can join in, so I did for a bit. It was actually really fun singing along with some old songs like Waltzing Matilda, Daisy, Daisy, She'll be coming round the mountain etc.
The cruise lasted just over an hour and a half. When we disembarked there was a little old style band playing all dressed up in Victorian costume that was nice.
After the cruise I went up in a gondola to the Skyline which overlooks Queenstown and gives great views of the lake, the Remarkables and Deer Park Heights. Whilst at the top you can also go on the luge which I did 5 times. Its really ace - there are two tracks, one easy the other harder. I did the easy track 3 times and the final 2 goes on the hard track. It was fun and I thought I was going pretty fast until little kids overtook me! There is a chair lift to get you from the bottom to the top, but it stopped once for a few minutes and I get slightly freaked when things like that happen. But the luge was so much fun and I would definately do that again.
Got the gondola down about 6.30pm and spent a couple of hourse updating my site - you wont believe how long it takes to write postcards and upload photos!. Then its back to the hostel to get ready to leave to go to Dunedin early in the morning
