Monday : rain on and off
Shocking sleep last night, that nap yesterday evening was probably not a good idea, too much resting.
Never mind we got up and went downstairs for breakfast, we had the choice of Chinese or western. We thought we would try Chinese, been wondering what they have for breakfast. The meal we got was basically chilli beans, chilli cucumber, chill Lettus, crunchy chilli something and then to mix it up rice soup and one boiled egg. The egg was awesome, I'll probably try their western option tomorrow though.
After breakfast we got our belongings for today, its quite cool today I'll be wearing the jumper for sure. We then went to the bus station next door.
Today we are off to Leshan which has the Grand Buddha. It's the Worlds largest Budda which stands 71m tall and carved into a rock cliff face. Its over 1200 years old and has 8.5m toes and fingers longer than most people are tall.
We got our bus tickets and hoped on our bus. The bus took us to a bus station in Leshan, then we took a local bus to the buddha's entry.
There was a big line to go down to the base of the Budda, like really big. We thought we would go checkout what other things this Buddhist Paradise had on offer instead.
There was a lot of little jungle pathways everywhere, and they all seemed to lead us to a temple, cave or nice quiet garden. Lots of the gardens had waterfalls in them too. There was one cool temple with lots of monks burning incense and chanting. We took an extended break at an empty garden by a waterfall to avoid people taking our photo, and waited for some of the big Buddha line to die down.
It was 3pm when we left the park, and amazingly enough the wait had worked. The bulk of the line was gone and we had probably 10-15 min shuffle down the stairs to the base. He's a big boy that's for sure, he's carved into the cliff a good 10m. I think I read it took almost 150years from start to finish.
They built the big fella to calm the waters for the boat people, where the three rivers meet. Some people believed it worked, others believe that all the stone rubble that was thrown into the river filled in the uneven riverbed and that's why the river was calm. It didn't seem calm at all today, it was raging past us at the lower viewing area.
After we got our photos, we climbed back up to the top of the cliff and made our way to the exit. Then found our number 13 bus for the people packed ride back to the bus station. On the bus an old Chinese man offered his seat to Kim, it's a backwards world up here.
We had a 20min wait before the bus left, and we picked up some treats to tire us over till dinner time.
The bus was good we both had little naps, it seemed like a longer trip though. For a second there we thought we hopped on the wrong bus, luckily not.
Once off the bus we stopped in at another chemist to pickup some more cold tablets. We also passed a subway and we had sandwiches for dinner tonight.
