We got a bus from Phuket to Krabi which was about 2 hours where we stayed for the night. Krabi town is quite a quiet little town, not alot going on, just markets and stuff, but is very cheap! The following morning we got a boat to Railay which is further up the coast butcan only be accessed by boat. We aimed to try some rock climbing and it is supposed to be amazing. We had a look around a few climbing schools and booked 1 and a half day climbing and half day cliff jumping. Railay has a very Jamacian feel to it, all the climbing instructors are thai rastafarians, and bob marley can be heard pretty much all the time!
Day 1 of our climbing we found out just how hard rock climbing is, this is rock climbing cliff faces - no climbing walls here! I managed to just about do the first two climbs in the morning but after lunch we did a couple of harder ones which i couldn't really deal with. But later that after noon we were taken up into a cave by foot which was fun, it was pitch black in there. we reached a view point (which was incredible!!) from which we abseiled down. We then climbed into another cave (one at a time) from which the view was absolutely incredible! The limestome cliffs & and beaches was immense. Night life wise Railay had a few bars playing raggae music with fire dancers struting their stuff.
Day 2 our climbing, first off we did a 30 metre climb, this might not sound much but its mammoth, hauling yourself up 30m is not easy! But i was soo glad i made it to the top, again the view was unreal from up there although it was a bit hard to appreciate when i was dangling on the side of a cliff face with a harness digging into me. That climb knackered us out for the rest of the day, but our instructor made us do a much harder climb a 6A rated climb (the 30m was 5B - it goes from a to d from 1 -9 - 9 being the most difficult climb), very nearly but no couldnt do, either of us. After lunch we went cliff jumping, this is when you free climb a cliff face and jump off into the sea. Sounds crazy and is but it was low tide for us - there was no way of climbing the undercut part of the rock at the bottom where the sea was. Although there was a rope which we tried to cling onto from jumping off the boat and then (in theory lumberjack style to the part of the cliff you could stand) but no we arent lumberjacks and our arms were dead from 2 days of climbing - so we went to a small little island off the coast, which had an awesome beach white sand and amazing view.
Today we left Railay and are attempting to get to Ko Phi Phi, where the film 'the beach' was filmed (is the pic above!) and is said to be one of the best tropical paradises in the world! although there will be many many many tourists there - but it has to be done!
Cop Khun Cap!
Chow for now!
