We're only in Battambang for a short while so this will be a small post.
The first day was spent walking around the city. Considering Battambang is Cambodia's second largest city it only took us half an hour to walk round it. We found somewhere to eat, Cambodia is the cheapest country we've been too. £2 for a nice meal and about the same for somewhere to sleep. They use both Riels and dollers. 4000 Riels makeup $1. You have to often pay in both currencies which isn't always easy to workout specially after a few beers.
The next day we got up pretty late and walked around a couple of temples. We decided to go to the killing caves. This is where Pol Pot killed a lot of people in the 70's by pushing people off a cliff into a cave. I got a photo with a monk who was pretty pissed off, we were surprised as its against their nature.
There are also 2million bats living in the cave that fly out at dusk. While we were waiting for the bats we found a place to have a beer, some people from England and Spain that met the same day were already drinking there so we joined them. We all watched the bats fly out the cave which took ages, arranged to meet up in Battambang for dinner. We found an awesome Mexican restaurant and all ate with some more beers.
One of the girls traveling on her own was traveling to Phnom Penh on the same day as us and it was her birthday a couple of days later so we arranged to meet up. A guy from Spain is also going to Vietnam near the same time as us so we may meet up at some point.
The next day we got picked up from our hotel in a very run down broken minivan and dropped at the bus station. Being Cambodian time our bus was an hour late again. After another uneventful bus journey we got to Phnom Penh. We shared a tuktuk with Maarit (the girl we met the night before). We arranged to meet up the following day as it was her birthday.
Not so short after all!
