woke up and got ready to leave civic hostel and I bumped into Jacob and Heather who I met in absolute, they had stopped the same place for the night and I didn't realise but they were off to magnetic island too so we got the ferry over together.

It only took 15 minutes to get over, its only 8km from Townsville, on the way over you could see some of the beaches and the hills and it looked like a proper nice place. Checked in then went to get some food with Jacob and Heather. Looked like proper backpackers because we decided to get half a cooked chicken and buy a 6 pack of buns which worked out at 3 dollars each. Sat on some crates using our fingers to tear the chicken up sat next to the supermarket, we looked like Scruffs.

After a few changes of plans, due to a lookout getting maintenance done and missing the bus. We decided to go to picnic bay just near where the hostel is, got lost a few times but eventually made it down, was a really nice little beach. We hopped on the rocks to try and find a place called knobbys head but all I could find was a bunch of rocks that were formed in a dirty way. licked a green ant, don't know if you knew but green ants give out some sort of scent or something that warns away predators but if you lick it, it tastes like a really sour kind of lime. Weird stuff.

Came back to base and since it was cheap drinks before 6 I bought myself a few jugs of beer. Had food and drank some more, joined in for one of the bar games and failed miserably and by about 11 I was done for the night.

Base hostel reminds me a bit of calypso, it has it's own bar and nightly entertainment and it can be just as scruffy, but the location is great, we are literally on the beach with the houses at the Back, where I am, are hanging over the rocks and onto the beach. The main bar area you can just sit and watch the tide come in and out because it's outdoor it's even better.
