Set my alarm for 7.00 AM since I was getting picked up at 7.25 to go to the reef! Had the short journey down to the docks were everyone met up. Was expecting the worst as the clouds were everywhere and it had only just stopped raining from over night but we were told that out at sea the weather is generally better than at land, since were next to rainforest here anyway.
The boat took off, full of about a 100 people, and we were shown how to snorkel and what to do when water gets in the snorkel or your goggles etc and also shown, if you had your name down for a dive, the instructions of how to scuba dive. After that it was just a case of waiting around while we got to the destination which took maybe an hour and a half. It's funny how many people get seasick and the water on the way out was quite choppy too.
Saw some girls taking in the sun then all of a sudden they got a bit wet and started saying "eww" I thought it might have been spray from the ocean but some girl near them had vomited and the wind caught it and sprayed it all over them.
Got to the reef by about 10 and the sun was out and it was such a lush view of the ocean. We got kitted up in our wetsuits snorkels and flippers on. I got my camera ready then we got in the water.
Since I'm not the most confident in the water one of the staff asked if I wanted to hold onto a inflatable with a few ppl and she would do a quick little guide around the reef. It's so surreal at first putting your head under the water, and even more so when you can see all these fish and lush coral everywhere. It take a bit of getting use to but you quickly get the hang of it.
My group was called out to do the scuba dive but because I had only been snorkelling for about 5 minutes I said I didn't want to dive because it was just too much too soon, especially trying to remember how to do everything. I was expecting us to be doing the scuba in the afternoon instead but they ask if you want a second dive in the afternoon for 50 dollars so they're just after the money really.
Had about an hour snorkelling and took a load of pictures then we had dinner on the boat then sailed to another location, the first was called hasting and the second was wave patches or something like that because some points of the coral were so high it would break the waves up.
Before we got in the water again one of the staff found a turtle in the water then said this is the best place for finding turtles and there's like 3 main sections of coral so your bound to see loads of stuff.
Went in the water again and had a look around everywhere but couldnt see any turtles or sharks which was a shame but there was still loads to see and I took lots of pictures again. I personally thought the first location was better but the whole day was an amazing experience seeing all the different coral formations and different types of fish was so cool, shame I didn't dive but it was still a great time
