We got a later start then we wanted. We had to wait for our repairs from yesterday to get checked off and signed off by the maintenance staff. Add to that we burned up our 100ft 50amp 125/250 cable. Oxford proved expensive.
So we took off and headed to Knapp’s Narrows. I called ahead and asked if there were any issues or special instructions since the Narrows often have low water levels. I was told there were no issues and that they were dredged to 9 ft. I’ll get back to that in a sec.
Our trip was mostly uneventful. Most of the trip we were plowing into the tide which robbed us of about 2 knots. The 16 Nautical Mile trip took us just under 2 hours.
Once we made our final turn into the narrows the wind picked up blowing into our starboard side. The cannel into the narrows is not wide but well marked. As we closed in on the last slight turn i made sure to stay in the middle of the green day marker and to the left of the red day marker.
You guessed it, right in the middle of the channel we ran aground. It was about a 20 minute wait for Tow Boat US to pull is free. The Tow Boat Captain was kind enough to let us know that you have to drive right at the red marker and at the last second, go around to the RIGHT and quickly turn to left as you pass it. Seems the channel wall collapsed.
Anyway, we made it to the dock without further incident. The dock hands here did a VERY good job getting us in despite the heavy wind.
Since we had to spend an extra night at Oxford, this stop will only be for 1 night. We leave early tomorrow for Wharton Creek.
