Our trip today was supposed to start around 10:00am. Unfortunately, we were in a tight spot on the dock with a 9mph wind pinning us to the dock. The boat behind us was not leaving but the one in front was leaving at 1:00pm. Checkout is 11:00am.
My phone rang as i prepped the boat and it was the dock master for Herrington Harbor South wanting to know when we were leaving. I explained what was going on and they tracked down the folks in fronts of us who hurried back and took off at 12:05. I followed at 12:10. Unfortunately my 1st mate was taking a nap and i had to hurry our departure. Got the boat safely off and started our journey to Oxford Safe Harbor Marina.
She woke up about an hour into the journey. As she was starting to check out our rigging for running I received a call from Oxford Safe Harbor that they had a slightly disabled boater that they wanted to put in our reserved slip and move us to the boatyard side of their marina. I was fine with that but the walk to the pool is incredible.
They journey itself was rather uneventful. We had calm seas no wind but ran i to the tide. We only averaged about 9 knots for the 21.6 nautical mile trip.
Oxford is a quiet sleepy town with some really good restaurants. A small shopping area and the marina has a nice pool with friendly and helpful staff. A nice place to visit.
