My eyes fluttered open and I awoke to see the moon still up and the smouldering embers of the dying fire. I folded up my blankets and put on the jumper I had been using for a pillow. I got up out of the dust and went to my tent and helped Siobhan pack up. We got on the truck and went back into the park for another game drive. I went back up on the roof, which was more of an attempt to keep me awake than anything. I could have quite easily slept in on my cow hide bed out in the open, for a few more hours at least.
We didn't see much on this game drive, we did see a few more Gerenuks, which we had seen plenty of yesterday, but never seen anywhere else. They are a gazelle like creature with a long neck like a giraffe, a very strange. We also saw more Dik Dik, which are fast becoming one of my favourite animals. They are the smallest antelope in the world, no bigger than the size of a domestic house cat, with tiny little horns.
After the game drive we set up outside the park for breakfast and we had baked beans to my delight. I also had fruit whirls, which I bought for myself, they are a bit like fruitloops and Dave teases me about them every morning. This morning he remarked that my breakfast matched my shorts. I was wearing awesome shorts.
We packed up breakfast and said goodbye to the tribe. We then got on the long hard road to Marsabit, on the border with Ethiopia. We drove for about 30km on tarmac road, before we hit the wall. By hit the wall I mean we had to drive for an even 200km on a road, that for the most part looked like a dried up river bed. I think at one point we fishtailed for about 10km, with me laughing the whole time.
We stopped for lunch in the middle of nowhere, which was really cool, not another person in sight. I took some more road pictures and had Cate take one of me in the middle of the road, which i'm sure she found very strange.
We bounced around on the truck all day and I could certainly see why Gabrielle had called this road, The dancing road.We got into Marsabit at about 7:30pm and are staying in a hotel, a thought which first excited me, but when I saw it, I thought to myself I would rather be back on my cows hide bed under the stars in the Samburu village.
