Another early start as I was up at 5:30am, taking my tent down in the dark and then helping to cook breakfast again.
We left for the Maasai Mara at about 7am, it was about 60km to the town of Narok where we went shopping for food and did some banking. Then it was about another 100km down a really rough road into the park. We stopped for lunch around 1pm in a Maasai village and the men in the village danced around us, dipping their heads and chanting basically in our faces. I didn't know what to think, especially when the brightly dressed men grabbed hold of me and made me dance with them.
After we had watched them dance, the Maasai took us to see their village, we had a look inside one of their huts and then watched the ladies of the tribe sing for us. I ended up buying a very pretty necklace from the hut they had set up as a shop. My love of tat strikes again.
We said goodbye to the Maasai and headed into the park. It was about another 3km to our campsite and after we had checked in we went out for a bit of a game drive in our huge, noisy truck, which in my opinion is totally unsuitable for game driving as it scares all the animals away, the fact that it's bright yellow doesn't help either. We didn't see very much and there was a storm on the horizon so we went back to camp.
We had no sooner gotten our tents us than the sky absolutely opened, we cooked our dinner by running to the truck every so often and grabbing something we had forgotten. By the end of dinner we were all completely drenched. I went to bed at 8:30pm (can't believe I have to get used to that again!) if only for the fact that there was absolutely nothing else to do. I fell asleep listening to hippos grunting and lions roaring. I love Africa.
