Waking up on a moving train, this is starting to get old. We pulled into the main train station at Prague at 8am and set off for Grand Hotel Europa, which is about a 15 minute walk.
The lady at the reception wouldn't allow us to check in as it was not even close to 2pm and was giving me a bit of grief. I then heard the manager shout out, TUCAN TRAVEL?, to which I yelled back, SURE IS. The manager them came bustling out and made the lady check us in. I love my job.
I gave everyone their room keys and an hour to go get something to eat. Catherine and io went to a lovely little café and I had smoked salmon one a crusty roll with cottage cheese, for breakfast. All it cost me was 26 Krowns, about 1 Euro.
After breakfast, I started out on the orientation, which only lasted until the striking of the hour on the astronomical clock in the old town square. There were lots of free walking tours going at the time and all three of my passengers opted to get on one of those, rather than do it tomorrow and cover the exact same ground twice, so I had a free day today.
I decided to take the scenic route back to the hotel, and by scenic route, I mean I actually got lost for about 2 hours. How embarrassing.
I spent the rest of the day haggling for train tickets for my next tour which has 12 people on it. I went back to the station intent on getting the Bucharest to Istanbul sector, but all the times had changed and I had to confirm it with Sara who usually runs the tour. I went back to the hotel and had a 1 hour power nap and then went back to buy the Krakow-Prague-Poprad sectors. I had to get something out of today. I didn't think I would be able to physically walk to the station again today. I was exhausted from the overnight train ride, my legs ached from being a little bit lost this morning and my feet were killing me from the cobble stones.
After I had managed to score at least some train tickets, I came back to the hotel and finally brushed my teeth and had a shower, of sorts. The shower here is over a huge bath, you basically have to sit down to use the shower as when you lift it up there is no pressure. Typical of older style plumbing in Europe.
I got ready for the dinner I had planned at 7pm and had half an hour to kill, so I spent it sitting in the window of my third floor room admiring the view of Prague. I looked down and noticed that some tourist was taking a picture of me sitting in the window.
No one ended up wanting to go to dinner, so I took myself to the pub and had roast pork and dumplings for dinner. Not for the first time I wished Tim was with me, as they were playing awesome music and the beer was amazing!
