Surfers Paradise & The Gold Coast
Our next destination was surfers paradise on the lovely gold coast, we decided to hire a car and drive down from noosa to surfers. It was a great idea as we got to drive along the coast and stop along the way allowing us to explore more of the sunshine coast. plus it was also easier to travel with our bags and my surfboard, which we just managed to fit inside this little rental car.
We safely arrived on the Gold coast, and to our apartment for the next 4 weeks in surfers. The apartment was ideal for us, a minute walk from the beach and only a few blocks from all the shops. We spent a lot of our time wandering about Cavill mall (the main shopping area), or taking it easy in the coffee shops but the majority of our time was spent at the beach. Rhi enjoying the sunshine and improving her suntan. Whilst i spent most of my time surfing until a little surfing accident forced me to have stitches and stay out the water for a week. The swell was pretty crazy in surfers, much bigger than anywhere I have seen in Australia and the dumping of the waves was pretty bad too. Most days were awesome though and I think I’ve got the surfing bug. Rhi kinda loves it when I go surfing as well, she gets to enjoy sunbathing in peace.
We thought it would be a great idea to hire out bikes for the day and take trip along the gold coast down to Burleigh heads. It was great to see more of the gold coast, seeing all the houses along the beach front made us feel very jealous. The beaches on the Gold Coast are amazing, its one very long stretch of light yellow sand.
Since we’ve been in Australia we’ve been huge footy fans, footy being the rugby league. And we were lucky to enough to go and watch the Gold Coast Titans play Manly Sea Eagles at Skilled Park. The Titans ended up winning a real good game and we both really enjoyed ourselves.
The following week we travelled up to Brisbane for the day to see State of Origin, Queensland V New South Wales in footy (rugby league) at Suncorp stadium. it’s a best of 3 series, Queensland won game 1 in Sydney and would seal a fifth straight Origin series if they won. State of Origin is as big, if not bigger than the 6 Nations. And it was amazing!! The atmosphere around the pubs before and after the game was wicked, and in the stadium it was mad as. Queensland defeated New South Wales 34-6, we had a great day and are proud Queenslanders!
We didn’t do too much the last week, relaxed about the place and generally took it easy…we’ve adapted well to the Australian way of life.
On any given day Surfers is Paradise!
