We have been from East to West and back to the East coast. After our stay in Kaikoura we headed inland to Hanmer Springs and then via Lewis Pass over to Greymouth. The next day we headed back over the Southern Alps on Arthurs Pass to Christchurch. The two routes over the mountains are stunning. We had fun in Hanmer Springs too in the hot springs and mineral pools.
We spent a couple of nights in Christchurch, its a nice City and strange to see punting so far from Cambridge! We timed it just right to see England beat New Zealand in the Rugby 7's being held in Wellington, the atmosphere was great, they are truly Rugby mad!
We are now in Akaroa, a volcanic area about 50 miles South East of Christchurch enjoying the sunshine. This afternoon we are hoping to swim with Dolphins. There is no guarantee but they take you out into the bay and usually Hector Dolphins will come and swim with you. Its great to be able to swim in the wild with Dolphins and not in some tank at a zoo. The Hector Dolphin is the smallest and most rare in the world.
