This evening Steve & Sarah, Raymond and I decided that we would head over to the other side of Phuket Island to a town called Patong which had a lot more bars and nightlife as it was fairly quiet in Phuket Town where I was staying. Although Raymond and I hadn't been over there yet, Steve & Sarah had, and they warned us to brace ourselves as it was nothing like the town we were staying in.

We headed out to the bar next to the hostel first for our nightly free (half a glass of beer and half a glass of froth) drink of beer, and stayed here until around 22:00 when our taxi came to pick us up. We had agreed a price of 400 Baht (£8) each way with the taxi driver for our 30 minute journey across the island. I certainly wasn’t prepared for what I saw!!!

The first bar that we walked into and sat down at, we ordered our drinks and immediately were joined by some Thai girls who started talking to Raymond and I. Then after about 5 minutes of talking with us 'my one’ asked if I would buy her a drink. I asked her why and said that I had no money to buy her a drink and only had enough for one more for me. She didn’t like that one bit and she just sat next to me not even talking to me. Then she noticed that Raymond had bought a drink for ‘his girl’ and got up and went over to talk to him leaving me with Steve & Sarah which pleased me. Raymond then got persuaded by ‘my girl’ to buy her a drink too....what a mug!

When the drinks that Raymond had bought came up for the girls, when they were not looking a grabbed one and took a sip to see what it was. They had both ordered a vodka and orange and when I tried it there was no vodka in it at all, but I guess that’s what the scam is. You pay for a vodka and orange; the girls just get orange juice and pocket the money for the vodka. This was they don’t get drunk throughout the night getting free drinks off the guys. The next problem to occur was when Raymond’s bill came for his two drinks for ‘his girls’ came to 380 Baht and considering that the bill for our 4 beers was only 400 Baht, he was quite reluctant to pay for them. After some arguing with Raymond and the staff, Steve finally stepped in and paid the money and we left for another bar before things got out of hand.

The other bars that we visited tonight were pretty much the same and Raymond was in his element. He thought he was god’s gift to women and I don’t think that he realised that they were probably all prostitutes and where only really talking to him because they wanted his money. This didn’t stop him as he was taking girls phone numbers and eventually went home with one of them. I just hope that he has moved out of our dorm room by the time that I get back to the hostel.

Steve, Sarah and I were left together and visited another few bars and checked out Hollywood’s Nightclub (which we stayed in for about 5 minutes) before heading home at around 4am with me stopping for a photograph with some random guy in a cowboy outfit before getting our cab back. We were all wondering if Raymond would be back at the hostel or on the beach, LOL.
