Up at 5am this morning to get packed up and checked out of my hotel to catch the bus to the airport. Luckily the bus stop to the airport is just across the road from my hotel and I didn't have to wait long until I was picked up by the local airport transfer bus.
The flight over to Bangkok was very empty, I am sure that this was mainly due to the troubles in Bangkok with the government and the red shirts, oh and also something to do with the Foreign Office advising only essential travel to Bangkok....guess this is kind of essential....a holiday with Christina....that will be good enough justification to my travel insurance company won’t it?
I arrived in Bangkok airport at around 10:30 and with very little bother got my bag and cleared security. I went off for a walk around the airport as I had 4 hours to wait for Christina’s plane to land, so I found a nice quiet spot with a few empty chairs and a power point to plug in my laptop. I used the following few hours to catch up and finish off my blog for the China trip as I knew I would have to start writing this one for Thailand. I managed to get China finished but as I couldn’t find any free Wi-Fi in the airport I am still to upload it all. Sorry, as it seems like I am a long way behind but I will try to catch up soon.
While finishing my blog, I hadn’t realised the time and Christina’s flight had already landed and by the time I got downstairs to the arrivals area Christina had already go in to panic mode as she couldn’t find me, her mobile phone wasn’t working and she was just about to buy a phone card to call me from a phone box when we found each other. Our next problem was to try to find the airport transfer that we had arranged as it hadn’t turned up and we noticed on our booking had been made for the 18th June 2010 (what a bunch of Muppets!). We called the hotel and they sent someone over to pick us up and all was well.
Once checked in at the hotel we went to have a look at the Intrepid notice board to see what the plans were and we bumped in to Alex and Kathy who were in our group doing exactly the same as we were. We introduced ourselves and went off for a drink and some dinner together. They were married and both from Australia although Kathy was originally from Malta.
