Up at the the crack of dawn today at 5.45am as we had a tour booked that would get us out of Bangkok for the day and visit Damnernsaduak Floating market, the Bridge over the River Kwai, Jeath Museum and the Tiger temple. We sat in our hostel lobby as we waited to be collected for our tour between 6.45-7.00am. At 6.50am a man entered, spoke to reception and approached us saying "Floating market, Tiger temple?" and assumed it was our tour guide collecting us. After the hour drive to the floating market we were told that we would have to pay to gain access but this is something we had already paid for the previous day. Turns out that the man who had collected us was a private taxi driver also booked for the same places that morning. Long story short we had been collected by the wrong person for our tour and had to pay the driver 1000 baht (20 pounds) for the pleasure of his service. We got back to our digs, appologies were made by the staff and our tour rescheduled for tommorow. It's fair to say that we weren't happy one little bit and both felt like we had been had. But lesson learnt to check, check and check again before leaving for any pre planed tours.
After getting over the whole tour debarkle, we took a cold shower to freshen up and went for a walk to Lumpini Park, which we had spotted from the top of the moon bar the night before. It took us about one hour to walk there but it was worth it. Only a few steps into the park and the noise of the traffic dissapeared. Plus it was nice to see some greenery instead of the concrete jungle. Whilst walking around the lake inside to park we spotted quite a few monitor lizzards (at least thats what we think they were) that were about the same size as a baby crocodile. I tried to get a bit close to one to take a picture and it made a noise that nearly made us fill our pants so we left it alone and walked on.
We were caught in the rain and took shelter at the libary that was built into the park. After 5 minutes the rain started to die down and we decided to hot foot it back to our digs for a snooze and to sort out bits and bobs. On the walk back, the traffic fumes kept catching our breath. We have both loved it here but we are ready to move on now. Only so much hastling off tuk-tuk drivers, smelly streets, limbless beggers and people trying to sell you suits that you can take. After our rescheduled tour tommorrow we are looking to move onto Cambodia on thursday. Now that looks like its going to be unreal!

Mark Oxley Awww bless ya's!!! The park looks beautiful, a moment of tranquility amongst a living breathing man made steel and concrete heathen, I look forward to your blog on Cambodia!
Ray i was on a similiar trip... to floating market, coconut farm and a factory some sort. Never made it to the coconut farm cause our driver got lost, we were going round and round (saw plenty coconut trees) then we came out the coconut trees and just plain fields. Thats when questions were asked, apparently we didnt have time for the coconut farm... then to make up for lost time cause we had to be at the market at certain time we took short cuts down the motorway (expressway to some) on the wrong side...... and this was where the story starts..... nothing beats a trip that goes wrong from the minute you step out the hostel. But thats holiday for you... memories.... wouldnt trade it in for anything else.
