Today we were up at about 11am local time and it was red hot. We decided to make up for yesterday and revisit the Golden Budda temple. We walked to the closest MRT (Metro station) at Sam Yan and took the train to Hue Lamphong which was quick and cheap only costing 15 baht each. After arriving at Hue Lamphong, it is only a short walk to the Golden Budda temple and on route we got chatting to a local man who started to ask were we were from and where were we going which is pretty standard practice here. After telling him we were going to the Golden Budda temple he pointed out that I would not be allowed in due to wearing shorts. Which we thought "Fair enough" as some temples you have to be dressed formally to gain access. The kind man hailed us a tuk-tuk and advised us of a great temple that we must see, circled it on our map and also pointed out a place called Thai Fashion that we must visit.
The tuk-tuk was rather cheap to this must see temple but we were rather underwhelmed on our arrival. Basically a room with a fancy roof and a budda inside. After listening to the owners crack for a while we left with our trusty tuk-tuk driver who was determind to take us to Thai Fashion (as they get free fuel if they take tourists there to try to flog them cheap suits) but we stood our ground and by then we knew we had been had. So lessons learnt there. Dont trust the happy to help man.
We asked to be taken to the Golden Budda temple with haste. We arrived shortly after and guess what, I strolled on in wearing my shorts. Ashleigh had to hire a showl to put over her shoulders but that was it. It was a very impressive marble building with gold guildered decoration. We climbed the flights of stairs to the top level to see the great gold budda. I would say it was about 20 foot high made out of solid gold. Worth all the pallarver from before to see it.
After the Golden Budda temple we walked back to the MRT to catch a train back and walked back to the digs for a shower and a bit time to chill out. We had decided earlier that we were going to visit the moon bar this evening at the Baynan tree hotel on Sathorn road.
We had a 1500 baht voucher to use (CHEERS SUE!) on drinks. Proper classy place and we dressed up for the occasion so it was off with the shorts and on with some trousers and a dress. Drinks were pricey but defo worth it for the views. We both sat there with cocktails whilst watching the sun go down 61 floors up from the bustling streets of Bangkok. Ashleigh said she felt like Carrie from sex and the city so that must make me Samantha. Amazing! After the sun went down it was like a new city coming to life in front of our eyes. A 360 degree view of bangkok that we will never be able to forget.
Early night for a full steam ahead tour of the floating markets and tiger temple tommorow! Will update again when can! Night all!
Love Peter and Ashleigh X
