We had a late begining today and treat ouselves to a lye in. We had a bit of a late one last night and did not surface till about 2.30pm local time. Im sure it had nothing to do with the drink but our body clocks adjusting to the new time zone.
To start the day we took a walk to the Golden Budda temple as it didnt seem too far to walk on the map. We were a bit wrong with this assumption as it took us nearly an hour and a half. By the time we got there access to the temple was closed so shall get up early tomorrow to fit in a few temples throughout the day. It was still great to have a walk about though as we both could explore the local area at our own pace. Plus the stop off on route for lunch was a welcome break from the humid and sticky heat.
After finding that the temple was closed we took a walk around bangkoks china town. It was mental, it was like a carboot sale like no other. We decided that we needed a drink and hailed a tuk-tuk to take us to Khoa San Road, a place popular with travlers. As soon as we got there we had a walk up the bustling street and found a canny bar with cheap drinks to take a load off and watch what was going on. I only heard the words PING PONG SHOW twice which was a welcome break from the night before. After watching a kid do amazing football tricks for about 5 minutes we finished are beers and grabbed a tuk-tuk to take us to our next destination.
We got to the Rajadamnern Stadium shortly after to watch some Muay Thai boxing. We paid for the top deal that got us ring side seats. It was amazing. There were eight fights in total that lasted from 8.30pm till 11.30pm. It was great to watch the locals betting on the fights with there many hand signals and arm movements. Also the shouts that went up as the boxers plowed there knee into the other guys ribs. The smell of Tiger balm wafted through the air as the fighters has been smotherd in the stuff pre fight. Watching them prepare before the fight was great as they done there magical stretch dancing around the ring whilst blessing every corner with a bow. Also there was a house band that played a sort of hypnotising music during the fights. The bell would ring, the band would start playing and then the fighters would start to move like enchanted soldiers. Great night. Got my photo taken with one of the winners of one of the bouts too. Which was nice!!!
love Peter and Ashleigh x
