Yesterday after waking from our cheese and wine night, well we say cheese as all we could find at the little shop at the crab market was Laughing Cow triangles. It done the job though and went great with the little packet of veggie crackers and BBQ nuts that we also picked up. As I was saying we woke to an army of ants everywhere and I mean everywhere. They covered everything we own and had to spend about 20 minutes brushing them off everything with a towel. After winning the war of the ants we checked out and got a Tuk-Tuk down to the dock to catch our boat over to Rabbit Island. We got on the boat about 9.10am and it took around 25 minuets to arrive on the little island. Or so we thought it was little but I will get to that soon. We hopped off the boat straight onto the beach of Rabbit Island to views of swaying palm trees, moored fishing boats and small hut accommodation stretching the length of the beach. We had arranged to stay in our boat mans accommodation that evening as it made it simpler to ensure we caught the boat back to Kep dock in the morning. After being showed to our hut for the night, consisting of sticks, palm weaved walls and roof with a bed and mosquito net that had more holes in than our Andy's socks. It also had a toilet, for flushing it you had to use a pan of water that you would collect from the barrel next to the pot and swill it down the loo. All good fun I suppose. I loved the little place as I've always wanted to stay in something like that but Im not sure if Ash loved it as much as me.
So we thought "We are on an island and it can't be that big. Let's walk all the way around!" It was a right bloody trek. We were climbing and ducking through the forest of the island amongst the spiders, lizards and snakes, walking through the shallow waters of the coast line if we could and climbing over rocks in flip flops. Never an easy feat. It was great exploring and the views were stunning. We kept on thinking "Our beach must just be around the corner…." but it was corner after corner after corner. It took us around two hours to get back to where we had started and were knackered. So we sat down for a spot of lunch and some ice cold beers. After resting our bellies for a bit we got in our bathers for a tad of sun worshiping. Splashing around in the shallow waters was a great way to cool off and just generally relax. After sunning or pink skin for a bit longer we walked up the beach to grab a drink. On doing so we heard a familiar sound of "PPPPPPEEEEEEEEEE-AAAAARRRRRR" this is the way that Ashleigh pronounces my name according to the staff at Bodhi Villa. It turned out it was one of the barmen Chantha on his day off having a day trip to Rabbit Island too. It was great bumping into him as we were still missing Bodhi a bit and also he is just a good guy and a great laugh. We ended up talking about his family and he told us that his father would have been 61 now but died at 42. We asked what his father died of and his answer threw us a little as he said "Black Magic!" He described his fathers symptoms as liquid building up on his stomach that once drained would return within days. As the doctors could not explain what was wrong eith his father it was put down to black magic. Funny to think in a modern age, that some places still think and live by the old ways. We spent pretty much the rest of our night with Chantha, a girl from Holland called Aniek and Alex a lad from North Shields. It was great to hear a local accent again and turned out he is a fellow Newcastle supporter. The power to the island normally shuts down around 10pm and the bars close at this time also. After having a few drinks with the people we had met we decided to call it a night bang on 10pm as we had an early rise in the morning to catch our boat back to Kep. Having to use our head torch to find our way around our little hut was quite comical and we clambered into bed with our wholly mosquito net in place for a well deserved sleep.
We woke at 6.30am this morning, checked out and got our boat back to Kep. We had booked a bus to bring us to Kompong Cham for 8.30am but managed to get an early one at 7.30am by taking a short Tuk-Tuk ride to the bus stop. The bus here took around seven hours including a change at Phnom Penh. Getting around by bus is still our favorite way to travel so far. It can be lengthy and uncomfortable sometimes but the amount you get to see that you wouldn't be able to if you were traveling by train or plane totally makes up for it. We are here for one night only and are looking forward to getting to Kratie tomorrow as first impressions of Kompong Cham is that there just isn't really anything to do. So we are going to search for some cheap grub and get back to our digs to watch a movie on TV, a little pleasure we have been without for some time.
Love Peter and Ashleigh x

Derek Harwood Nice to hear you are having a wonderful time. However it makes me appreciate the finer comforts in life in a small northern town in little old England......
