Pedro's Mission
After treating myself to a soft sleeper (I deserved it, trust me) for the 18hr (I think) train journey from Xi'an with my Irish travel companions Paul and Linda I arrived in Shanghai early in the afternoon and made my way to my hostel. It wasn't a bad little hostel with a bar and a pool table and it was only a 5 minutes walk to the Bund. I can't really remember what I did when I first got there but in the evening I had stroll along the Bund and sat and looked at the Pudong New Area which was lit up with an array of fancy lights.
The next day I went to the otherside of the river to the Pudong New Area through the some what cheesey yet amusing tourist tunnel and paid a visit to the even more amusing Chinese Sex Culture and Sex Education Museum. I managed to get a few snaps in there before being asked to put it away and I was then kindly asked to stop taking photos. Spoil sports!!! I wanted to go to the top of the Pearl Tower to get a view of the city but there was no way was going to pay 100yuan for the sake of a few photos. After a late lunch I walk around a bit more before the heavens opened up on me. On my way back to the hostel I stopped of at a cheap cafe, well, cheap for Shanghai, and ordered a chicken dish with some rice. When the food arrived it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Infact it was nothing like I was expecting. It was chickens feet!!!! I'm not one to waste food so I ate them anyway and left a funny shade of green. Never again!!!! Back at the hostel I sunk a few beers with Paul and played Paul at pool for about 3 hours.
After a late start the nest day I walked along the Bund in the soring heat to the Old Town, which was really hectic, had a wander and sat in a park for a bit. In the evening I got my first fix of Premier football and watched Chavski beat Liverpool 1-0. The next day I left for Hangzhou.
