I arrived in Guilin after a nightmare 26 hour train journey down from Shanghai (I am so glad i don't have to do anymore mammoth train journeys for a while). Nobody on the train spoke English and i was the only whitey on the train which meant that everyone stared at me.
Anyway, I spent the night in Guilin and made the 1 hour trip down to Yangshao the next day. The scenery in this neck of the woods is stunning. Erect nipple like rock formations are everywhere. I managed to get myself quite a decent room hen I got to Yangshao. I got my on room with a queen-size bed, A/C, TV with sports channels, and an on-suite for around GBP2.50 pn. After sorting myself out I headed to the main street (West Street). As i was having a look around i heard someone shout Pete!, Pete! I turned round and it was Paul. He had managed to find me again. I went into the bar and had a drink with Paul, Linda, James and Marie.
The next day the 5 of us plus another couple (one of them was from Burnham-on-Crouch) cycled to the Water Cave on the outskirts of Yangshao. Once in the cave the guide (I swear he was on something) showed us around and told what the different rocks looked like instead of telling us the usual, how old the cave is, how it was formed etc...... After what seemed like an eternity he took us to a mud bath with a mud slide and then took us to a pool nd spent a fair bit of time diving in. After we went to see an underground waterfall, which had dried up. In the evening we all got drunk and stayed out until 4ish and met up for lunch the next day with a stinking hangover!! Shortly after Paul and Linda left for Hong Kong and I went back to the hostel to sleep off my hangover.
I headed back to Guilin the following day with James and Marie. I tried to have a look around Guilin but it was far to hot and went back to my nice air conditioned hostel for the rest of the day. The next day as my last day in China........................So I did nothing. In the evening I got my delayed flight to Bangkok.
