After much searching in the U.K. and Europe we eventually found what we were looking for in Denver, Colorado, USA. The camper is an aluminium frame with a fibreglass shell bonded to the framework making it lightweight and strong. Hopefully, this should stand up to the rough terrain we will experience on our journey through Africa to Cape Town.
The camper fits on the back of our 4x4 pick up and can be taken off easily whenever required. The roof pops up to reveal a king size bed and we also have a toilet, fridge and oven. When the vehicle is being driven the roof folds down to make it more stable and not top heavy.
The camper was ordered in February for delivery in May but after various delays from manufacture and shipping it eventually arrived at Felixstowe early in September. We drove down to Felixstowe to pick it up as we couldn't wait any longer for it to be delivered to us.
We had to have several modifications done firstly to the lights to convert from US to U.K. spec and also a secondary battery charging system connected to the pick up. We also had a more substantial system fabricated to fasten the camper to the truck base and were finally ready to go. We did decide on one more modification, as the camper was sitting slighty heavy on the pickup we had air suspension fitted at the rear of the pickup which was done by Overland Expedition Company in Devon.
