Pete and Lou's Big Adventure
Well hello again. We have just arrived back from Fraser Island! What an amazing experience, definately a place that has to be seen to be believed! Crystal clear lakes, quiet sandy beaches, beautiful rainforests - sheer paradise. We arrived at our hostel not really knowing what to expect. Fortunately the group we were with was agreat laugh! After the briefing it was time to chill and get ready for the trip. The next day we headed off to pick up the 4x4 - pete was like kid! After another biefing we left for the ferry - via the best bakery ever. Quality. One of the guys bought a family size cream cake and ate the whole thing himself! When we got off the ferry at fraser island it was time for the real fun to begin. We headed straight for central station for a 40 min trek to lake basin but it was worth it. The water was so clean and clear. After spending some time here and another 40 min hike back to the jeep we drove to lake wabby and its huge sandblow. This honestly has to be seen to be believed - its a huge sand hill running down to the lakes edge - great for sliding down. Again the lake was crystal clear and clean. Eventually we had to leave and do boring things like sent up camp (yes we slept in tents - on the beach) and do dinner. Dinner consisted of steak and salad - which as it turns out does actually get everywhere. We spent the evening chilling out, chatting and gazing at the stars - so beautiful. We eventually turned in for our most comfortable nights sleep ever - errr yeah right! The next morning we got up at 6.00am.....early i knoe but we had so much to do and wanted to get cracking. Our first stop was Eli Creek which was fantastic - a natural lazy river that carried you down to the sea. The water is soooo clear and clean it actually tastes better than the drinking water. Here we saw loads of fish and eels which we thought about catching and finding some jelly hahahaha. We then risked high tide to Idian head and its amazing views across the beaches and the ocean. We wanted to see some sharks but the water was too murky. Boo! We all decided to walk to Champagne Pool which was ok but not worth the half hr walk in the blazing sun. We decided back at camp to have a game of rounders on the beach which was made all the more fun by pete taking us onto a storming victory. I also was there taking some important catches! That night we decided to stich some of the other camps by turning their front wheels to free so they would get bogged in the sand and putting sausages outside their tents for the dingoes lol Unfortunatley i didnt sleep much that night and therefore neither did pete. On our last morning we packed up camp and headed to Lake McKenzie which for us was the highlight of the trip. A huge freshwater lake which has white sillica sand. It really was amazing. We spent a couple of hrs playing around in the water before it was time to head back to the ferry to the main land. All in all our fraser island experience was better than we can describe and more beautiful than our pics will show. If you get to OZ then Fraser Isalnd should be near the top of your must do list!
