Nelson - First stop from the ferry was Nelson, apparently it's knows as the sunshine coast as it officiallys receives the most hours of sunshine of anywhere in New Zealand. It was sunny when we got there but it was freezing! We only stayed here for one night as it was only a small town and we were itching to move on and see the rest of the South Island.
Greymouth - Is on the west coast, it's meant to be the largest town on the west coast. We thought it was like a ghost town. Again only stayed here for one night as there wasn't much to do. However we did get to visit the Monteith's Brewery, we got to taste all their beer and even have a go behind the bar, Pauric was in his element! The brewery tour actually turned out to be a good night!
Franz Josef - Next stop was Granz Josef. However just before we stopped off at place called Hokitika where we got to do some gold panning, this was fun and we were suprised that we even managed to find a little gold, it might come in handy for when we run out of money!
Franz Josef was spectacular and located right next to a glacier. Pauric persuaded me to do a full day guided walk rather than a half day on the glacier and i agreed not knowing what i let myself in for! The glazier was amazing with some gorgeous scenary and sights but the hike itself i found quite tough but well worth it at the end!
Queenstown - Known as the adventure capital of the world and it's right, there is so much to do here. We stayed here for three nights and on one of our days we took the gondola to the top of one of the mountains, it was amazing at the top you could see the whole of Queensland and further. At the top we did have a go at a luge ride, it was good fun! We also visited a famous ice bar called Minus 5, the whole bar was made of ice, including the glasses and when you enter they give you a big thick warm coat to wear as it was actually minus 8! The bar was really cool though.
Christchurch - Is very similar to an English city. We never got upto much here. Pauric managed to have a go at a 737 jet simulator which he loved of course! But Christchurch itself was just another city.
Kiakora - We stayed here for only one night. Kiakora is a very nice place but very quiet. There were a few things to do here like, whale watching and dolphin swimming however we only managed to visit a seal colony.
Dunedin - Like a scottish town, Dunedin actually means "Edinburgh of the South". It's a very nice town. We did do one tour and that was in fact visiting the Cadbury Factory, the Cadbury Factory at home in Birmingham is right next to me but i haven't visited that one so instead i thought i would see how the Kiwi's make chocolate. Trip itself was boring but we got loads of free chocolate so im not complaining!
