Day 107. Early on the road today as we travelled northeast along the Goldfields Way through the Macedon Ranges to quaint hot springs town of Daylesford, then onto old Castlemaine stopping in Bendigo for coffee. What a beautiful elegant Victorian city! Huge plane trees line both sides of every street and are coming into Spring leaf, the flower beds and solid decorated Victorian buildings and the huge tall Gothic Revival Catholic Sacred Heart Cathedral tell of historical wealth through gold, and the trams remind us of Melbourne. Driving further north towards Shepparton the country is so green with crops, sheep and cattle. All around Shepparton massive orchards of pears, peaches and apricots are all in flower for the Ardmona SPC Goulburn Vallery canneries. After lunch in the park and refuelling we pushed onto pretty Benalla and Glenrowan where we saw Ned Kelly figures on the hotel verandah! Onto the M31 freeway we could see Mt Buffalo and the Victorian Alps in the distance with snow on Mt Feathertop! As it was late afternoon we exited the freeway at the heritage gold town of Chiltern where we found a grassy little CP by Lake Anderson for the night. Dinner leftover lamb curry with rice, drove 390km, fine sunny day 18 degrees. Almost home!
