Days 38 & 39. Only 140km today on rough tracks through cattle stations to the oasis of Adels Grove and the Lawn Hill National Park for 2 nights camping. A very rough track with lots of bulldust into Kingfisher with a dry crossing of the mighty Nicholson River. Near Lawn Hill Station we were surprised that the track actually followed into the river downstream and then emerged up the bank! A bit scary! Finally reached Adel Grove for a very shady campsite with mature trees by the waterhole. These were planted in the 1930s by a French botanist Adel le Strange. Swimming in the waterhole while a large freshwater croc watched us.
Next morning we drove up to Lawn Hill (Boodjamulla) National Park and hired canoes for a 6km paddle up into the brilliant red gorge. Dragged the canoes up over the slides to enter the upper gorge so we could swim under the waterfalls. Amazed at the colours of the gorge reflecting off the glassy water. Afterwards, a few beers at the bar and BBQ of steak and vegetables back at our camp. Yet another great day of adventure!
