Day 43. Breakfast at the Birdsville Bakery and then down the famous Birdsville Track towards Innaminka crossing the border into South Australia. Turned off onto the rough dirt track to Walkers Crossing for over 100km across the unusual Sturts Stony Desert full of smooth small red gibber stones to the Cooper Creek crossing. Then through the Moomba gas fields and got lost in a maze of gas roads. Finally after getting directions from very helpful truck drivers and our GPS we got back onto the dirt road to Innaminka. A dusty little road stop town famous for the Burke and Wills explorer tragedy on their way back from the Gulf. Quick pies for lunch and drove out to the Dig Tree where the explorers returned to Camp 65 in1860 only to find the support team had waited 17 weeks but left 9 hours earlier. Down the red dirt Adventurers Way towards Tibooburra and getting late so we decided to bush camp tonight under the stars with a lovely campfire. Dinner pork chops, onions and potatoes, and of course a red!
