Well, here we are again.
Let me tell you a bit about what has happened over the past 5 and a bit years since we finished our trip around Australia.
We rented a house in Traralgon and we both got jobs. It didn't take long until we had fallen back into the "normal" routine of life. We bought some furniture, bought another car, paid bills and so on.
After a few months we decided that we would buy a house again, and we purchased a wonderful place on top of a hill at Koornalla, about 20km out of Traralgon. This was a fantastic place to live. There is wildlife right at the back door and the view down the valley and on to the hills in the distance was awesome. Over the next 4 ½ years we transformed the property from a house on a block to a very nice home. It was a lot of work, but the end result was worth the effort.
During our time at Koornalla, we did more than just work. We indulged in new hobbies and interests, we travelled a bit, and we spent a lot of time sitting on the back porch taking it all in. We bought and sold a few cars, Kathy fulfilled a dream of owning a horse and riding it straight out the front gate for a trail-ride through the bush, I bought and sold a few guns and learnt about reloading my own ammunition, I continued with my radio controlled aircraft hobby, and we learnt a few new skills such as fencing and driving the tractor.
We also had a few holidays… Ayres Rock 2014, a trip to Bundaberg 2015, Central Australia 2016, and Far North Queensland 2017. Every time we departed on a trip, the urge of travelling crept in. Slowly but surely, the urge grew to a point that neither of us could ignore it any longer.
Although our home at Koornalla was beautiful, there came a time when both Kathy and I were becoming sick of the day-to-day "normal" life that we had fallen back into. Go to work, pay bills, pay the mortgage, come home, work on the property, sleep, and repeat. We really wanted to be travelling again and we found ourselves telling each other that life is too short to wait. So, we did what we had done before and decided to sell up, do a bit of travelling, and see where it takes us.
This time we have a nice caravan with an on-board shower and toilet, and we have a V8 Landcruiser ute to tow it with.
So, we sold the Koornalla property, sold Kathy's car, sold the tractor, sold most of the furniture and packed what remained into a storage shed. We parked the van at a caravan park in Traralgon for a few weeks while we finished working (and waiting for school holidays to finish) and we did a 3 week house-sitting for a friend.
On Friday the 2nd of February 2018, we left Traralgon and headed for Lakes Entrance, the first stop of many as we head up the east coast. We are jobless and homeless, but we are debt free, stress free and happy.
