We're on our way!!
After months of selling, cleaning, sorting, and packing the time has come for us to begin our travels. We have spent a lot of time being careful of what we need to take with us for a year or so of travelling, but as it happens we have packed WAY too much stuff into the Pajero and the camper trailer. We will no doubt thin it out as we go, we need to!!
So, yesterday morning we locked up our house for the last time and drove away. We had breakfast with Mum and Dad, dropped the keys at the real estate agent, and then hit the road. It was a weird feeling, and not quite what we expected. Although we know we are homeless and jobless, at the moment it still feels like we are taking off on holiday for a week or two. I'm sure that will change soon!!
We had decided to spend the first couple of days camped at Cape Otway and then spending a night or two with Kathy's uncle and Aunty at Laver's Hill, but as the weather has been rather ordinary in these parts, we made the decision to go straight to Laver's Hill. We drove straight through Melbourne, around Geelong on the highway toward Colac. Just out of Winchelsea we turned for Apollo Bay and drove through the Otway National Park. It was a pleasant change from the busy highway, single lane country road winding through the trees and ferns of the Otways. Although there was a lot of wind and the odd squally shower it was a very pretty drive. At Apollo Bay we followed the Great Ocean Road to Lavers Hill and stopped at Kathy's Uncle's. The weather was nice when we arrived but it soon changed, making us glad we didn't camp near the beach. As I write this it is 12 degrees, windy and pouring rain outside. We'll see what happens tomorrow, if it is still raining we will start heading north for some sun and warm weather.
See ya!
