We arrived in Dong Hoi about 4:30am ish. We were just dropped at the side of the road but luckily enough we had an app with some GPS to see if we were near the centre. In comparison to Monaghan we would have been dropped at Next with no lights and no idea really where we were going.
The girls weren't too comfortable with walking through a strange town where there where two weird men on bikes so we sat about and waited until it was a little brighter. Who thought I'd ever be siting on the side of the road in Vietnam at 5am playing a game of snap!! We got very rowdy and I'm sure we must have woken one or two people.
When we started moving and going down a few side streets we came across a little hotel called Nam Long hotel. It's a lovely little spot with only a minute walk to the river which is lovely with lots of fishing boats.
Emer, Claire and I decided we'd take a walk to the beach because it was a fabulous day and we'd had mixed weather in Hanoi. As soon as we left the hotel m, straight away we realised that the people in this town really don't see all that many tourists. When they saw us... We were very white! All the local people waved, shouted hello and some even took pictures. It felt a little strange at first but sure we were lapping it up after a while ;)
We found the beach which was a completely secluded beach with only a fab coloured blue sea and miles and miles of sand. We picked a spot and chill for a few hours. During that time it was only us and then a little fisherman appeared for a little while. We really are like celebs in this town with our private beach!!
In Dong Hoi there really is very little to see but the fact it's been rarely touched by tourists makes it that little bit more special than the rest.
We got picked up on Saturday morning to head to Phong Nha Farmstay which we've heard so much about. Had to leave bright and early because we had booked a tour of the National Park tour. Not quite sure what to expect at it but it cost us 1,000,000 dong so let's hope its good!
