Up and at it early this morning because we were going to do an all day tour. Claire had a funny tummy so decided against the long bus journey and opted out for the day.
Firstly we went to a stunning temple in Tay Ninh which is home to the Cao Dai sect. The religion is a mix of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity. It was a fabulous scene to see and if I'm honest a little eery.
The movements of the people seem so regimented but then again so do we when in mass but these people have such a faith it's amazing and so visible. It was lovely to see this especially because we got the last day before they stop for tet which is the Vietnamese new year which happens on 10th Feb.
We then made our way to the Cu Chi tunnels. Here we got a history of the tunnels and its amazing how the story can be told in many different ways. I'm sure the Americans would tell the story completely differently. I found it amazing when they had highlighted how certain people were awarded because they'd killed the largest amount of American soldiers. One this for certain is I'd hate to the caught it one of their booby traps... Ouch!!
We then got to go to the shooting range where I'd be waiting for all day. I chose to shoot 10 rounds from an AK47. This was such an wicked experience and I can't even describe the thrill you get shooting a gun like that. Now I'm not going to go around shooting people but this was just class and I'd recommend everyone to do it at some stage during their life.
We then covered 120metres of the cu chi tunnels. To say these are small would be an understatement. We were also told that they have made the tunnels wider because they are such a tourist attraction. I wouldn't have liked to have tried to fit into and live in those tunnels if they had been any smaller. The people must have been tiny.
I can't believe that tonight is our last night in Vietnam. 15days in total travelling from north to south has been amazing. I've absolutely loved Vietnam and my highlights are swimming through the Dark Cave in the National tour, shooting an AK47 and my new found fascination with the Vietnamese people. Up early in the morning to make our trip from Vietnam to Cambodia. The king there is being cremated today so lets hope that doesn't cause any bother.
For now its good night and for the last time tomorrow it will be good morning Vietnam!
