Paul's World Tour
Hi everybody from Melbourne!
We landed in Australia about 8 weeks ago and after so many months
travelling we were getting desperate for some money and a place to be
settled. Within a few days we had our own flat in the St Kilda area of
Melbourne which turned out to be the red light district. Its never a good
sign when you have a hooker at the end of your street -and that was just
during the day - the street got a lot scarier when it was dark. Thus the
incentive was on to get a job so that we could afford a nicer flat.
Our first weekend we went out to the suburbs to visit my relatives - James,
Allison and Liam, who had moved out here a few years ago. It turns out
that they live only 5 minutes away from the residential areas where they
film Neighbours! So we took a trip out to Ramsey Street and were able to
walk around the actual street - got the photos to prove it. Apparently
real people live in the houses and when they buy the house they have to
sign a contract that allows the TV company to use the outside of the
property for filming. It was really cool.
I landed a 6 week contract with Cadbury Schweppes as a financial analyst
working on a model for their people cost budget. The work was a bit boring
but the office was only 5 minutes walk from the flat and the money was
good. Plus they gave us loads of free Cadburys chocolate and soft drinks
in the office which was cool.
We are now living in a much nicer area away from all the hookers.
Melbourne is a cool city and its been good being settled in the one place
for a while in a bit of luxury. The backpacks are in the wardrobe and the
clothes are on coat hangers - it still has novelty value. However, now
that I have finished my contract, its time to start thinking about getting
on the road again and seeing a bit of oz before making our way back home.
Thanks for all your messages and emails. Its great hearing all your news.
Best wishes
Paul
