Paul's World Tour
Hi everybody from Vancouver!
Apologies for the delay in updating the website but i wasn't keeping too well recently - a long story which starts way back in Las Vegas but i will tell you all about that later.
Anyhow, it's now over a month since i left Scotland and a lot has happened since then. Last time i wrote to you i was in Miami and just about to start my Trek America tour. We all met up in Miami Beach and everybody on the trek were all really cool.
First stops was down to the Florida Keys which were really beautiful. We visited Hemmingways house and did a sunset champagne cruise - free alchol and sailing is always the best way to get to know people quickly!
From there we headed north through Florida - visiting the Everglades and then up to Disney World - the happiest place on earth and, on the day we visited, the coldest place on earth. There is something bizare about being allowed to ride splash mountains no stop 6 times while we all sat there in our wooly hats and gloves - this was meant to be the sunshine state!
After that it was on to New Orleans which was a crazy city - and what better way to get to know the city than on a risky scavanger hunt! Our team was named the Great Scot (no, i didn't pick the name, one of the girls in the team did!). We came last! Our fatal flaw was to start the scavanger hunt with a round of Hurricane cocktails - the most deadly drink there is - after that we just messed about around the city which was fun! Its an interesting city. Bourbon street is just mad. Preservation Hall was really cool listening to all the jazz where Louis Armstrong once played. I'm not a big fan of jazz but the whole experience of listening to it live was just amazing - the sights, the smell and the sound just made it.
Our travels continued into Texas where we went to Austin and San Antonio before venturing into Big Bend National Park. Its very big but not very bendy. Its right on the Rio Grande which turns out to be a really small river that is so easy to swim across into Mexico. You can see in one of the pictures, we are all sitting in a hot spring and behind us is the river with some dodgy mexican getting ready to swim across to us in the USA!
Onto Las Vegas and what better way to see the city than in a stretched Hummer. Again, there was plenty of alcohol involved and the pictures speak for themselves! It was a fantastic night.
The next morning i took ill and had to go to the emergency room - its just like in the tv shows of er and scrubs except you get charged $850 for the privillege! Anyhow, i had to rest up in the worlds largest super 8 motel while the trek continued without me. Several days later on my own in the vegas, the drugs weren't working and i still wasn't getting any better so back to er i went. They put me on even more antibiotics and it started to make me feel better so i was finally ready to get on a plane to San Fran and meet up with the trek again.
San Fran was excellent and it was great meeting up with the trek again. We did the Golden Gate bridge and rode the cable cars - its a very cool city. On my final day we went over to Alcatraz for the nightime tour. Very spooky although i wanted to run around like Nic Cage in the Rock and protect the city from some deadly VX gas!
Finally, after a week in San Fran, the time came to say goodbye to our friends from the trek who had all stayed on in the city. It was really sad but in the world of travelling there is every possibility of seeing them again.
I flew up to Vancouver to meet my good friend Douglas who i haven't seen for 4 months since he left Glasgow to come and live in Canada. I have been in Vancouver for a few days and it's a really cool city. My plan is to chill out here for a few weeks before going back down to LA in the beginning of March.
Hope everyone out there is doing fantastic! Its has been great to get all your messages. I'm trying desperatly to reply to them all. Its cool to hear how each of you are doing around the world. If i haven't replied yet, don't be offended as I will get round to replying to everyone eventually. Every single message means a lot to me.
Best wishes
Paul
